Richard Serrell, recording as Richie Rich, came out of East Oakland and first reached listeners through the late-1980s collective 415. A 1990 cocaine conviction interrupted a Priority Records arrangement and cost him several years — a documented fact of his biography rather than a pose. He returned in the mid-1990s with enough regional standing that Def Jam signed him, yielding Seasoned Veteran in November 1996, which reached the upper third of the Billboard 200.

That album carries "Real Pimp," which he co-produced with DJ Daryl.
