Premo Rice
Maryland rapper whose Mack Sagas and Gorilla Pimpin titles carry a Too $hort–Pimp C persona; no record ties him to pimping.
Edited still: background removed, converted to black and white.
Premo Rice is a rapper from Prince George's County, Maryland, whose catalog since 2015 has been built on the mack and player vocabulary of Too $hort and Pimp C. AllMusic's biography, by Andy Kellman, gives his name as Richard Leon Dixon, Jr., calls him "a casually authoritative rapper from the D.C. region," and places him "in the lineage of rappers such as Oakland's Too $hort and Port Arthur's Pimp C" while noting that he synthesises modern G-funk, trap and sample-based soul in his own way. That description is the frame for this record: the pimp is a persona carried in titles and cadence, and no source consulted describes Dixon as anything other than a recording artist.
His debut album, Mack Sagas, appeared in 2015. On 25 January 2016 Live Forever Recordings released the six-track Gorilla Pimpin EP, running about seventeen minutes and including the song "No Mo." AllMusic describes him as "remarkably prolific": within two years of the debut he had enough material for a Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (2017), followed by Orange Juice Jones (2018) and, among later titles, Deep in My Bag on Live Forever. His 2024 album P Got Game was produced by Harry Fraud and carried guest verses from Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, Kamaiyah and Jay Worthy, which is the widest-circulating release in the catalog and the one that placed him in the national independent-rap conversation.
The persona is consistent and self-aware. Titles such as Mack Sagas, Gorilla Pimpin and "Pimp Game Proper" reach for the 1970s player figure and the Southern and Bay Area rap traditions that revived him, and the DJ Quik and Too $hort influences AllMusic lists are the sonic side of the same reference. Nothing in the record connects Dixon to pimping, prostitution or the Players Ball circuit; there is no arrest, conviction or reporting of that kind, and none is implied. A user's recollection of a Premo Rice track called "Pimp Hop" was checked against his catalog and not found; the title belongs to the San Diego rapper Juice Lee, whose record is separate.
What remains undocumented is the ordinary biography: date of birth, upbringing, and the label history beyond Live Forever, none of which a named-author profile in a major outlet has covered as of this writing. The record is therefore filed as persona: a documented discography wearing a mack's name.
