Young Dope Man

Founder of Hood Box Office: a 2007 web network from Oklahoma City, 2009 footage with Pimpin' Ken and 50 Cent, and self-reported street origins.

Young Dope Man, also styled Dope Man or Dopeman, is the founder of Hood Box Office, the network that hosts this archive. That relationship is stated so readers can weigh it: the record was built from public sources under the same rules as every other entry, with the subject's own account kept apart. No source consulted publishes a legal name, and none is given here.

The earliest dated public trace is a WordPress post of 21 June 2007, "Welcome to the True chroniccentral.net," signed "DopeMan of chroniccentral.net." A Myspace profile under the username chroniccentral_net gives the display name Dope Man and the location Oklahoma City. In March 2009 XXL reported that Pimpin' Ken (Ken Ivy) had publicly criticised 50 Cent and that 50 Cent had telephoned to make peace; 50 Cent's official channel carries the "Pimpin' Curly" comedy videos from that period, and footage of Ken and Dopeman addressing 50 Cent survives on YouTube in a third-party upload. Hood Box Office's own pimpincurly.com says "the first video made by Young Dopeman & Pimpin Ken" belongs to that storyline. XXL does not name Dopeman, but 50 Cent's own Episode 5.5, posted 10 March 2009, has the Pimpin' Curly character telling his target to ask Dope Man, Pimpin' Ken and Bishop Don Magic Juan.

The network's own answer to 50 Cent ran on WorldStarHipHop from February to April 2009 as a user-submitted series, "Pimpin Curly Goes To College." Episode 5, posted 6 March 2009, is billed as "Dope Man Presents" and shows more than two million views; its description, credited to "hood box office," has Pimpin' Ken telling 50 Cent's Pimpin' Curly character to "prepare to enroll in Pimp College." Episode 6.5, posted 3 April 2009 and billed as "Hood Box Office Presents," features "prof. ken" and has Dope Man warning Curly. A third upload from the same run has Dope Man confronting JoJo of Jodeci while Pimpin' Ken "speaks with 50 Cent about real pimpin'." These titles put the Pimp College idea on record by March 2009; a "Hood Box Office reports" caption on WorldStarHipHop goes back to 2 October 2008.

Pimpin' Ken's own book, Pimpology: The 48 Laws of the Game (with Karen Hunter, Simon Spotlight Entertainment, 2007), opens its second law, "Get a Name in a Game," with an epigraph attributed to "Dope Man"; the preview consulted gives no further identification. A podcast listed on Listen Notes as "Pod cast for Hood Box Office" ran from September 2014 to January 2016; its early episodes include the debut of Pimpin' Ken's show and "DopeMan Present a Conversation with Wendy Black – RIP" (30 September 2014). VladTV covered him twice: an exclusive video by DJ Vlad in March 2010, and a June 2014 piece that calls him "founder of HoodBoxOffice" — the earliest independent press description of that role found so far. Hood Box Office LLC is based in Sanford, North Carolina, and says it has broadcast street culture "since 2003." Its pages describe Dope Man as Executive Chairman, say Pimpin' Ken "got his start in the game under Dope Man — then known as Young Dope Man — on the Hood Box Office Chronic Central Network" and later served as President of Hood Box Office, credit Young Dope Man as presenter of the Pimpin' Curly channel and as executive producer of the unreleased Pimpin' Ain't Dead: Best of Both Worlds II, and name him on the Too Real for TV hub. Pimpinken.net and pimpincurly.com carry the footers "Powered and secured by HoodBoxOffice.com" and "Powered and secured by Wendy Black Foundation & HOOD BOX OFFICE."

On camera. He did not only describe the life; he put it on video, in a run of WorldStarHipHop uploads that has passed five million views. It opens on 2 October 2008 with a "Hood Box Office reports" statement about Trash Man. On 3 November 2008 Pimpin' Ken and the Houston rapper Z-Ro addressed Dope Man; on 30 November he answered, in a clip captioned "Young Dope Man Shows Us How To Mix The Dope With the Pimpin"; and on 14 December Ken replied with an episode captioned "If you sell Dope u can not Pimp!!!" On 15 January 2009, with his face covered, Dope Man posted a 46-minute webisode titled "Dope Man In The Kitchen Cookin Crack And Pimpin Chicks," demonstrating both on camera. The exchange ran on through Ken's T.I. episode (26 January), the JoJo and Mayweather episode (7 February) and "Pimpin Curly Goes To College" (6 March and 3 April 2009). In the same period he says he brought the adult performer Pinky back to the stage for the first time on his Hood Strip Show.

The subject's own account. What follows is Young Dope Man's telling, given to the archive and repeated on his own sites; it is presented as his account, not as established fact. He says "Dope Man" was a position more than a name: every hood had its dope man, and he set out to be the internet's dope man, the one supplying the hood's footage to the web — a role he describes as "performing a position on the internet." He says he came up in drug dealing in Oklahoma City and mixed "the D with the P" — dealing and pimping — when "straight-laced pimping" kept the two apart, and that Pimp C rapped about the same mix. He says he left the street and "moved the game to the web" through Chronic Girls, Throwback Bitch and the Chronic Central Network; that his video with Pimpin' Ken set off 50 Cent's "Pimpin' Curly" character; that Pimpin' Ken made him a "boss player" and Bishop Don Magic Juan called him a "four-star general" on video; that he coined "Pimpin' ain't dead, it moved to the web"; and that he now runs Too Real For TV under a licensing deal. He says Trash Man sent him Trash Man's first video in 2007, that he held it for about a year and released it in 2008, that everything Trash Man put out afterwards came through Hood Box Office, and that the first call he got once it spread was from DJ Kay Slay. Hood Box Office's own WorldStarHipHop statement of 2 October 2008 says he helped launch Trash Man's career through the Hood Box Office label. He says he later left the game, served in the military and turned his life around, and that he keeps the old footage public so people can see the dark side and how far he has come since. He says he was raised by a single mother in the inner city and came up young, and that today he is a father, a businessman and a philanthropist with no criminal record, running a network; he puts the record out, he says, so that people living that life now can see that it is possible to make it out. His own 24 August 2026 byline on the Hood Box Office blog says he "was in the game by the end of my sophomore year in high school." He says he wore a mask in his early web appearances for protection, at a time he describes as the internet's "wild west," and that the mask became his signature. He also recounts a WorldStar/YouTube clip in which French Montana hands him a bag of "snow" that was in fact flour. On the name "Pimpin' Curly," he says Rick Ross had been calling 50 Cent "Curly," Pimpin' Ken said 50 Cent was not pimping, and once Dope Man put that footage out, 50 Cent joined the two into "Pimpin' Curly" and later found out who was behind the video; he says 50 Cent left him a voicemail that opened "What's up, Pimpin'?" He has since produced it: a caller who identifies himself as "50" says he saw "your little clip on the web" and asks him to get back in touch.

Pimpin' Ken's own words back part of that account. In an undated interview filmed for Hood Box Office he says Dope Man came to him, in about 2004, to explain the internet at a time when he understood nothing about it, that the two of them "did millions on the internet," and that the work carried his name "over to the internet."

The public record supports the web-network history, the Oklahoma City base, the 2009 footage, the current credits and the business entity. It does not independently support the street history or the titles attributed to Pimpin' Ken and Bishop Don Magic Juan. On "Pimpin' ain't dead, it moved to the web," the record is split: a 2010 interview blog and Hood Box Office's own Vimeo caption credit the phrase to Pimp C, while Pimpin' Ken, who says he was in the room, told the Pimp Questions interview that Dope Man said it first and Pimp C used it after that.
