Johnny Dollar is the name used by a Minneapolis man interviewed by Mark Laita for Soft White Underbelly in a video titled "Pimp interview-Johnny Dollar." The channel's official catalogue describes it in one line: "Soft White Underbelly interview and portrait of Johnny Dollar, a Minneapolis pimp." The video runs just over fifteen minutes and follows the channel's standard form—a seated subject against a plain backdrop, a black-and-white portrait as the thumbnail, and questions about childhood, entry into the life, and where the subject expects to end up. It has drawn on the order of a million views and has been re-cut by other channels into short "lessons" and psychology commentaries, which is how most people encounter him.

The name needs disambiguating because it is a common alias. "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" was a CBS radio drama about an insurance investigator that ran from 1949 to 1962; Johnny Dollar was also a Chicago blues musician; and the phrase turns up as a rap and social-media handle. None of those is the Soft White Underbelly subject. Within pimp culture the name belongs to a tradition of money-word street names—Payroll, Fillmore Slim's "dollar" lines, Ken "Pimpin' Ken" Ivy's talk of "the bag"—that announce the trade's central claim: that the relationship is about money moving one way.
