Andrew Tate

The influencer indicted in Romania for trafficking and rape, charged in Britain, and held in Miami pending extradition; all charges denied, nothing yet tried.

Andrew Tate is a British-American former kickboxer and online personality whose businesses, by his own description, were built on women performing on webcam. He is here not as a pimp of the American street tradition but as the most prominent living case in which prosecutors in two countries allege that tradition's mechanics were used. Nothing below has been proved at trial; he denies every allegation and is presumed innocent.

On December 29, 2022, Romania's organised-crime directorate, DIICOT, detained Tate, his brother Tristan and two Romanian women near Bucharest. On June 20, 2023, DIICOT indicted the four for human trafficking and forming an organised criminal group, with Andrew Tate additionally charged with rape. Prosecutors alleged that seven women were recruited by the "loverboy method," false promises of a relationship, then housed in Ilfov county, kept under surveillance, coerced through intimidation and fabricated debts, and made to produce paid pornographic content; one was alleged to have been raped in March 2022. Tate moved to house arrest in March 2023 and judicial control in August 2023. A Bucharest court ruled in April 2024 that the case could go to trial, but on December 19, 2024, the Bucharest Court of Appeal found irregularities in the indictment and sent the file back to prosecutors. Tate said prosecutors "have nothing." Romania lifted the travel ban in February 2025 and the brothers flew to Florida, where the state attorney general opened an investigation.

DIICOT continued. A second file, announced in August 2024, produced a September 4, 2026 indictment of Andrew Tate for trafficking of minors, sex with a minor and money laundering, with Tristan charged as an accomplice. Prosecutors allege one complainant was fifteen when Tate recruited her in Britain in 2012 and moved her to Bucharest, that violence and intimidation made her produce indecent images, and that the brothers kept roughly $1.25 million, about eighty percent of her webcam earnings, laundering part of it through four luxury cars. Their lawyer said they "reject the allegations."

The British track runs in parallel. Hertfordshire police investigated three women's complaints from 2015 to 2019 and the Crown Prosecution Service declined to charge. A warrant was issued in 2024, and on May 28, 2025 the CPS announced ten charges against Andrew Tate (rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain, concerning three women, 2012–2015) and eleven against Tristan concerning one woman. On July 18, 2026, U.S. Marshals arrested both brothers in Miami on the UK request; the next day the CPS announced further charges against Andrew Tate, including seven more counts of rape, three of trafficking, three of assault and nineteen relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography, bringing the alleged victims to seven. On September 9, 2026, U.S. Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis refused them release pending extradition.

Separately, four women are suing Tate in the High Court in London over alleged rape, strangulation, coercive control and a gun threat between 2013 and 2015; two say they were his partners and two that they worked in his webcam business. His lawyers say all sexual activity was consensual. The June 2026 trial was adjourned on May 5, 2026 after Hertfordshire Constabulary reopened its investigation. Tate's own words frame all of this. His website once said, "My job was to meet a girl, go on a few dates, sleep with her, test if she's quality, get her to fall in love with me to where she'd do anything I say," and in June 2022 he told the Mirror the webcam business had been a "total scam." Whether those statements describe crimes, the courts have not decided.
